For several years now I’ve held a dream close to me, quite privately, that I’d someday have the kind of business that allows me the freedom to travel to exciting places while working, ultimately living as a ‘Suitcase Entrepreneur’, as Natalie Sisson calls it.  Now, I feel that it’s time to put it out there!  Which is why I decided to sign up to Natalie’s 10 Day Blogging Challenge.  In my first post I’ve been invited to get curious about the biggest challenges I’m facing and explore why I think they’re holding me back.  So I asked myself, “What’s your biggest challenge right now?”

FEAR.  Even though I’m confident in my abilities, there’s a small but very real part of me that is afraid.

“What are you afraid of?”

Of getting what I want, actually.  That’s scary.  Because if I get what I want that means my life will change, and I feel safe where I am.  Yet I know that I’m not safe.  As Seth Goden would point out, people easily make the mistake of confusing comfort with being safe, and while they may overlap at times they are distinctly different.  There comes a time when staying comfortable is distinctly unsafe.  All I needed to do was to ask, “What will it cost you if you don’t change?”, to realise that for me that time is now.

“What else is challenging you right now?”

Time keeping.  I spend much longer than is probably necessary on the work I produce and so my timing gets out of whack.  It comes down to perfectionism, really.  I’ve really improved in this area, which is something I’m proud of, I just need to do some fine-tuning now I’m consciously aware of what it’s affecting.  And yes, I’m aware I don’t need to be perfect at imperfection!

While I’ve gone into how they’re affecting me, I don’t believe they’re holding me back.  That would give away my power.  I’ve been unconsciously holding myself back and now I’m aware I can take action!
